Not as productive

So 2013 turned out to be not as productive as previous years. Mostly due to falling pregnant and being practically bed ridden for the first 4 months - and then my crafty mojo disappearing completely.
But here is what I did get done:
I made a couple of bags, a couple of quilts, some baby goods, a couple of baby swaddlers, some pants and 2 dresses.
On the immediate list to happen in the first month of 2014 is the nappy bag, some more pants for bubby, a couple of cot sheets, a quilt and a changing mat. And if I can squeeze it in - a few dresses for her first birthday.
What are your crafty goals for the new year?

Christmas

This year I made the conscious choice to take it easy. I knew it wasn't going to be easy in this heat so I didn't put alot of pressure on myself.
On Christmas Eve, I prepared everything that I could for the next day. So all I had to do on Christmas was serve it and wash up. Easy Peasy.
I spent most of Christmas Day in the pool. It was so relaxing. Just enjoying our last Christmas as a family of four.
So ready for this bubba to come. 11w and 5 days to go. Although you'd swear I was ready to pop now. I am huge!!
Now that Chrissy is over - I'm going to try and turn my attention to finishing up that nappy bag. And get my oldest girl organised to go back to school.
It's my birthday in a week - so trying to come up with a plan for that, although right now a sleep in and a massage are the only things I want to do.

Have a Happy New Year!

Hospitals, tests and big boys

A little hospital visit. A bit of a scare - but everything is ok at the moment.
Belly getting bigger. I had my Glucose Tolerance Test. Wasn't that fun.
I had to be tested because I have previously had big babies. And I guess because I am alot older this time around. And wider!
It was yuck. The liquid tasted like undiluted cordial. I got it down as fast as I could.
And in good news - my beautiful boy has graduated high school. So proud of him.
He had his formal last night and in his words, he had an awesome time!

Got another busy week ahead - but hoping to fit in a little sewing time.
Have a Happy weekend!

Pink

So I've been slowly increasing the pink in our household lately.
I forgot how little they are.
And after a week at the mechanics - I finally got my car back. And could finally get my stereo installed. Loving it!
My little sweetpea bought home some dessert. Love when she gets something that I like. She's a keeper.
And I started cutting out bag pieces. But only got as far as the exterior fabric. I wish there were little magic sewing fairies to come and cut it all out for me.
I think the rest of the cutting will be a job for tomorrow and the weekend. I need to take it slowly (which is so frustrating) as I get sore too quickly.
I've been up since 3:00am. I'm off to the hospital today. It's going to be a long, long day.

Have a good one!

It's a....

Girl!
We are so excited to be having a girl. Already having one of each - I really didn't mind either way. But this whole time I couldn't imagine her being anything other than a sweet little girl - and she is. Well, in reality she'll probably be a sweet BIG girl.
Can't wait to meet her.

Baby Swaddler

It feels so good to be finishing things off. I made this a while ago but only got to sewing in the velcro today.
This pattern was so easy. And a fast sew. Can't wait to snuggle my bubby up in it.
Pattern from here
Fabric is from Heather Ross's Briar Rose collection called Calico in Brown. You can find it here if you're looking.
Next up - the nappy bag. I'm giving myself a week to make it.
Tomorrow I'm heading in for an ultrasound and hoping to find out the sex of the baby. I can't wait.

Have an awesome week,

Bubby's quilt

Well I finished. Thankfully. Disappointed that I couldn't turn out something a little more special - maybe later. I just don't have it in me at the moment.
Maybe after we confirm if it is a girl or a boy - then I might be into it a bit more.
I need to take a little break from sewing for the weekend - my shoulders are killing me. But I definitely want to make the diaper bag next week. Really excited to make that!!

Have an awesome weekend

Crushing

Most of my thoughts are on bubby and bubby related stuff. Making....buying.
First on my list - these blankets - Aren't they delicious?
Thinking that if I want to save some dollars I might need to learn to crochet.

And this little blanket. So soft and pretty
And this is absolutely darling. So cute! Yes I definitely need to gain some crochet skills!!
And I want to make these. Adorable! I could probably manage these!

Oh well - back to unpicking for me today.
Happy Thursday

Bubby's first quilt top

If bubby is a girl, that is. At the moment we are assuming that is the case.
It might be different come Monday after my scan.
I might need to dig into my stash for some blue fabrics.
Anyway - back to this quilt. I actually went to find out the fabrics for the diaper bag and got totally sidetracked when I came across some leftover 8 inch squares from a previous quilt I had made. So I pulled out some more fabrics and cut some more squares and pretty soon had a basic quilt top.
Yesterday I pieced together a back for it. Only problem now is that I don't have enough batting. So I'm going to unpick a row from each side (that will be fun) and I should have enough batting to make it. That will be a job for tomorrow.

If I plod along - doing a little each day - I just might get some things finished.
Where are the magic sewing fairies when you need them?

Calling all Mummies!

So I have a dilemma. I'm trying to figure out which kind of diaper bag I want to make. I've bought 2 patterns but can't decide.
The first one is Sara's Aragon Bag.
I love this bag because it zips up - therefore keeping everything clean and contained. And I know how much care Sara takes writing her patterns - so I know it's been checked and will be easy to follow for my poor exhausted baby brain.

Or - do I choose this one, the Craft Apple Diaper Bag
I love the phone pouch. And it looks really easy = fast. Easy to throw things in and dig things out.

So this is where you step in. Since I've been so out of practise for so long.
What is important in a diaper bag? What couldn't you live without? Or simply - which one do you think will better suit the job?

Please help. I'm stuck! And I am getting bigger quickly - pretty soon I won't fit behind my sewing machine!

Slowly

Slowly starting to feel like we are getting organised around here.
I got rid of my car over the weekend and picked up a new (old) one.
It's so cute and I love it. Just needs a bit of mechanical work which it will get this week.

I've got plans this week to make a diaper bag. I've bought 2 patterns but can't quite decide on which one I think would suit me better. Although I have settled on fabric so there's half the battle sorted.

Whatever you are doing - have a fabulous week!

AMH Quickchange trousers

Last weekend I pulled my tracing paper and traced 3 patterns.
Then I pulled out some fabric and started with Anna Maria Horners Quickchange trousers from her Handmade Beginnings book.
Things quickly went sour when I got to the waistband and couldn't, for the life of me, figure out the pattern. Total baby brain, I think.
Fast forward a couple a days - and I found the answer on Flickr.
Noting it here so I don't forget......to insert the elastic, you need to slide it between the layers up through the leg. Of course, so simple!!!
So I finally got them finished this morning.
Can't you just imagine a cute little baby butt in them.
I need to make a boy pair as well - just in case!

Food Connect Box 6

I picked up my Food Connect Box today. Look at all the delicious goodies I got.

I may not have made it back into the sewing room yet - but I am loving being able to get back in the kitchen.
On the menu this week.

Turkish Pizza
Nicoise salad
Pumpkin & silverbeet penne
Chachouka
Stir fry & rice
Chicken & Leek risotto
Beetroot & Fetta Bruschetta

And some delicious juices with the kale & celery & pineapple. Yum!

What's on the menu for you this week?

Scary business

So this bubby is cooking away nicely for the time being. Although every time I get checked - it measures larger. It has me a little worried.
My previous kids stats were:

Michael was:
Weight: 4.575kgs or 10 pounds 2 ounces
Length: 52cm
Head Circ: 40cm

Caitlin was:
Weight: 4.760kg or 10 pounds 8 ounces
Length: 53cm
Head Circ: 36.5cm

If you've had more than one kid - have they weighed heavier or lighter? I really hope I'm not the only one whose babies get bigger!

This week has been busy playing taxi. So for 30 minutes before I have to head out the door again I thought I'd treat myself to a little coffee (no more daily coffees for me) and a bit of chocolate and update to IOS7. That's been fun. Only another 9 hours to go.
I have some dressmaking planned for this weekend. Really hoping I can get it done.

Have a happy weekend - whatever your plans may be,

Kel xxx
